RESURS-F Space System

In 1977, the TsSKB Bureau started development of new space system called Resurs-F for different-scale imaging of the Earth surface in visible and near infrared regions of electromagnetic spectrum with the high ground resolution and high geometrical and photometric characteristics.

The Resurs-F space system was intended for synchronous multispectral and different-scale imaging of the Earth surface to promote studies of natural resources and environmental protection, as well as earth sciences and international cooperation. Only because of the creation of Resurs-F it became possible to receive multidimensional and at the same time complex information with essentially new properties.

The next stage of the development of this line was creation of the Resurs-F2 space system intended for different-scale multispectral imaging of the Earth surface in visible and near infrared regions of electromagnetic spectrum with high ground resolution, high geometrical and photometric characteristics by essentially new imaging hardware, which surpassed foreign analogues of that time in parameters. The Resurs-F2 was better than the predecessor in higher ground resolution (2-3 times as much) and service lifetime (more than 2 times) that resulted in increased frequency of area registration up to 2-3 times.

During operation Resurs-F1 (1979-1999) and Resurs-F2 (1987-1995) space systems had been upgraded several times to improve their features. There had been 63 successful flights of these spacecraft in all.*
